Wielding the Sword: The Power Struggle Over Authority

Burning Fire

Last month, on a random rainy day, I was minding my business when I stumbled across a snippet from House of Dragons. Now, listen, I’ve never watched the series. Honestly, I’ve been over the whole drama genre for a minute now, and these days, I have staunch reasons for why I don't dabble in every storyline Hollywood pushes.

But curiosity, y'all know how it be, tapped me on the shoulder. So, I peeked at the plot.

What shocked me? Apparently, this series has seventeen dragons roaming around, tied into different power dynamics, alliances, and battles for the throne.

Seventeen dragons?!

And the Holy Spirit said, "Pay attention to the dragons."

In that world, dragons weren't just exotic pets or flex pieces for clout. They were weapons. They were symbols of authority. They were the cornerstone of power. Whoever had the dragons held dominion.

No dragon? No crown. No say. No authority.

And that’s when the Holy Spirit wrecked my little rainy day meditation session with this piercing question:

"Whose authority are you wielding your sword with?"

Whew.

We are living in a time where it's no longer about individual survival battles. Forget hustle culture. Forget "securing the bag" by your own might.

We are stepping straight into a full-on Kingdom clash: Kingdom vs. Kingdom.

Light versus darkness. Truth versus deception. The Lion of Judah versus the dragon.

There is no more in-between. You can’t vibe your way out of this one. You can't "opt-out" or hit snooze.

Whether you know it or not, you're already on the battlefield.

So let me ask you again and ask myself while I’m at it:

Whose sword are you swinging?
Whose authority are you standing under?

Because hear me —if you are operating outside of God's authority, you might have a weapon, but you don't have victory. You might have a platform, but you don't have dominion.

Without the Cornerstone, Jesus Christ, your sword is just scraping air. No power. No real weight behind it.

The Holy Spirit didn't stop there.

He led me straight to Revelation 12  where it talks about a great red dragon standing before a woman who was about to give birth.

And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon. The dragon fought back — but guess what?

The dragon lost.

He was hurled down —along with all his minions. The accuser was thrown out.

We have to get this deep in our spirit: This isn't just a story. It's a blueprint for the battle we are facing right now.

The enemy is still prowling, still accusing, still flexing with fake authority —but the end has already been written.

Spoiler alert: Jesus wins.

You might be feeling the heat right now. You might feel like you're up against fire-breathing situations; financial battles, identity crises, spiritual attacks, delays, betrayals. Maybe you’re even questioning your assignment.

But child of God, hear me: You were born for such a time as this.

You’re not swinging your sword alone. You’re backed by Heaven’s armies. You’re under the blood-covered authority of the Lamb. You don't need to fear the dragon. You don't need to compromise for power. You don't need to bow for acceptance.

The only question that matters is the ancient question Moses asked when the people were wilding out with the golden calf:

"Who is on the Lord’s side?" (Exodus 32:26)

Because when the power struggle comes to a head — and it will —only those standing on the unshakable Rock of Jesus Christ will endure.

Not by might. Not by power. But by His Spirit.

Always remember:

✅ Dragons (principalities and powers) are flexing but they are defeated.

✅ The battle isn't personal anymore; it’s Kingdom versus Kingdom.

✅ Authority matters. Whose you are determines what power backs you.

✅ Check your cornerstone.

✅ Swing your sword in the Name of the Lord.

Final Reminder:

You don't need a dragon to dominate. You already have the Lion of Judah roaring on your behalf.

Sword up, warrior. The battle belongs to the Lord — but you’ve been chosen to show up and swing from victory.
