Manifesting or Misleading? What the Bible Says About New Age Practices

I once followed a girl on Instagram who seemed to have it all; peace, confidence, and a glow that made you stop scrolling. She talked a lot about manifesting her dream life.
“The universe will give you what you desire,” she’d say. She’d post her crystals, her moon rituals, and affirmations like “I am powerful. I attract abundance.”
And for a moment, I wondered... Is this what I’m missing?
But something didn’t sit right in my spirit.
So I dug deeper. And the truth I found in God’s Word shook me.
Let’s talk about it.
What Is the New Age Movement?

The New Age movement is like a spiritual buffet. People pick what feels good and mix it.
They say things like:
“I’m spiritual, not religious.”
“I don’t do church, but I burn sage.”
“I manifest blessings from the universe.”
It includes stuff like:
Crystals for healing
Tarot cards for guidance
Meditation to connect with “your higher self”
Talking to ancestors or spirits
Horoscopes and astrology
Sounds deep, right? But here’s the thing: Most of these practices are not from God.
People who practice these things often want to feel special. They want to control their lives. They want answers to big questions, just like you and me.
1️. Who Controls Your Life?
The New Age belief says, “You are your own god.” add (notice the lowercase G. It’s intentional)Just think positive thoughts and you’ll create your dream life. It sounds powerful.
But it’s a lie.
One time, I tried manifesting something I really wanted—a new job opportunity. I wrote it down. I visualized it. I repeated affirmations. Guess what? It didn’t happen.
Later, I realized I had left God out of the picture completely. I was trying to control the outcome instead of trusting His timing.
Here’s what the Bible says:
“A person’s steps are directed by the Lord.” — Proverbs 20:24 (NIV)
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” — Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)
Question for you: Would you rather trust your own plan or the God who sees the full picture?
2️. The Danger of Hidden Spirits
Let’s talk about the creepy stuff. Horoscopes. Psychics.

Talking to spirits through mediums or Ouija boards. Even “cleansing your space” by burning sage.
I know someone who started with innocent horoscope readings just “for fun.” Soon, she was addicted to checking her zodiac before making any decision. Then came tarot cards and energy readings.
She felt more confused than peaceful. Why? Because she had unknowingly opened a door.
The Bible warns us clearly:
“Let no one be found among you who... practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens... or consults the dead.” — Deuteronomy 18:10 -11 (NIV)
Even if it looks harmless, it’s not. You wouldn’t invite a thief into your house, right? So don’t open spiritual doors to the enemy.
3️. Fake Peace vs. Real Peace
New Age practices promise “good energy,” “high vibrations,” and peace. But that peace doesn’t last. Because it’s not real peace.
I’ve tried to stay “positive” through hard times by repeating mantras like:
“I am strong. I will not break. I am light.”
But I still felt anxious. Still lost. Still empty.
Then I remembered what Jesus said:
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.” — John 14:27 (NIV)
And in Philippians 4:6-7, Paul writes:
“Do not be anxious about anything… and the peace of God… will guard your hearts.”
See the difference? The New Age concept tells you to fix yourself. Jesus says, “Come to me, and I will carry it.”
4️. Don’t Follow the Crowd

Let’s be honest. The New Age concept is trendy. It looks cool. It makes people feel deep, mysterious, and powerful.
It’s all over TikTok, YouTube, and even some gospel music lyrics lately. You hear phrases like:
“The universe will align for you.”
“Protect your energy.”
“Speak it into existence.”
But the Bible says:
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” — Romans 12:2 (NIV)
Being popular doesn’t make it true. Even if your favorite celebrity is doing it. Even if your friends are trying it.
Will you go with the crowd… Or will you stand for Christ?
5️. “The Universe” vs. The Creator

The New Age believers thank the universe for blessings. But the universe didn’t create itself. God did.
“Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.” — 1 Chronicles 29:14 (NIV)
“He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.” — Psalm 147:4 (NIV)
So next time someone says, “The universe is on my side,” You can gently say, “I’d rather talk to the One who made the universe.”
Final Thought: Jesus Is the Only Truth
Here’s the truth, plain and simple:
“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” — John 14:6 (NIV)
Jesus isn’t one path. He’s the only path.
The New Age concept might sound peaceful. It might look beautiful. But it’s a beautiful lie.
Jesus offers something better:
Real peace
Real power
Real relationship
What You Can Do Instead:
✅ Pray instead of trusting horoscopes
✅ Read God’s Word instead of emptying your mind
✅ Worship God, not the universe
✅ Ask the Holy Spirit to guide your life, not the stars
Have you ever been tempted by New Age ideas? I, too, can’t remember the number of times I looked out for the horoscope page in the local Dailies to see what would happen to me each day. But I’ve found more love, more clarity, and more strength in Jesus than the universe ever gave me.
How has God helped you turn away from deception and back to truth?
